The inaugural 1 on 1 tournament will be the Friday before the Bunnathon around 6-8pm. I will do my best to get a gym but outdoors is also possible. First round games are worth $25 a piece. Semi-final $50. Final $100.
Jesse - I spoke with everyone in the tournament prior to writing the rankings, no one disagreed with Jesse at 1. The combination of height, skill and conditioning are unmatched. A bad shooting day is probably the only way Jesse gets knocked off the mountain.
Randy - It’s surprising how many people forgot to mention Randy when asked about the tournament. Every knock on Randy has nothing to do with his actual 1-on-1 game (age + doesn’t play much anymore). Randy is the most balanced in terms being able to score inside and out and will grab a ton of offensive rebounds. As competitive as Jesse’s winter rec league is, I doubt it tops what Randy went up against in college.
Birdman - He never plays anymore, but you couldn’t tell watching him in the Bird-FL pick-up game over Thanksgiving. Having said that, the competition was pretty bad. I think the big question for Bird will be: can he create enough space against Jesse and Randy to get clean looks from 3. He’ll be ready to play by the time the tournament rolls around.
Sean - My poor mans Ben Simmons comparison didn’t really stick. I realized I’m a lot higher on Sean’s game than pretty much everyone else. His first round matchup against Boner could very well be the highlight of the tournament.
Boner - To quote one anonymous owner:” Boners feet come up to my shoulders at the peak of his jump shot.” He will need every bit of that 40-inch vertical against Sean and Jesse.
Billy - Billy’s size and weight advantage keeps things interesting against Birdman. A Billy Bird DelFL Final would make their first round match-up that much better.
Andrew - Andrew loses to Randy by a landslide. X could pull off a miracle.
Tit - Me v Jesse to kick off the tournament, wouldn’t have it any other way.
NIT FINAL – TONY V DEL – A game to 11 will be the best 30 minutes of the night.
