The DelFL's high frequency trading: active participation or a sign of desperation?
We are not even half way through the season and there has already been 17 trades, which is the 4th highest total since the DelFL moved to ESPN (no data on trades made at Fox Sports is available). More surprising to some, Bo only represents 12% of that volume (gone are the years when Bo makes 11 trades in a season with only 16 trades). Players are moving at such a fast pace that it is tough to figure out who is on what team anymore. Baker Mayfield plays for who? Did Ekeler switch teams again?
All this volatility is a sign of a healthy league. It is also important when trying to compete, as most Brown Jackets were won via clever deals. Just ask Stinky about the importance of trading. In 2011 he hoodwinked the Commissioner into giving up Aaron Rodgers for 5 cents on the dollar and was subsequently wearing a Brown Jacket at the end of the season. Ask X about the trade that didn't happen, when the Commissioner decided to veto a trade with his father that enabled the Pack Attack to stay together leading the Seals to Jacket glory. Ask Tony why he thought trading for a Titans WR was a good idea.
Will we be similarly discussing that Yanni - Melvin Gordon trade at the beginning of the year as one of the best DelFL moves ever? Will we be asking Squid why he didn't make many moves while starting the season so strong? Trading in the DelFL is tough business and can be very frustrating. You have to deny and endure many terrible Fish offers throughout the year. But if you can be patient and find that right combination, a trade can be the difference between another year showing up at the Bunnathon without a Brown Jacket or wearing Brown for eternity.
LeSean McCoy is available.
